The Hillingdon Hospital Redevelopment Programme
The Challenge: balancing affordability and innovation
We established the PMO for the redevelopment of Hillingdon Hospital - Circa 90,000m2 project under the New Hospitals Programme (NHP) Wave 1B. The scheme integrates modern construction methods (MMC) and aims to achieve net zero carbon (NZC).
Our approach: from governance mapping to dashboard efficiency
Archus was appointed to establish a Programme Management Office (PMO) to provide strategic oversight and ensure accountability for the redevelopment.
Joining at the Outline Business Case (OBC) stage, Archus implemented a robust management framework based on APM and PRINCE2 methodologies:
- Governance mapping: Enhanced existing structures and introduced tailored arrangements to support the Trust.
- Workstream accountability: Added nine workstreams to clarify tasks and deliverables.
- Programme scheduling: Created and managed a programme-wide schedule with monthly updates across all workstreams.
- Dashboard reporting: Developed a system to monitor progress, budgets, risks, and issues, praised for its efficiency and clarity.
These steps ensured efficient management, streamlined communication, and precise execution.
The impact: Transformed governance and programme management to achieve complex project goals
Through a streamlined governance and programme oversight approach complex project goals were met.
- Governance excellence: The robust structure was commended by the NHP team for efficiency and clarity.
- Enhanced accountability: Workstreams improved coordination and accountability across the programme.
- Streamlined reporting: The dashboard system, praised by workstream leads, ensured clarity in progress tracking and escalation points. This was praised by workstream leads for effectiveness.
- Programme achievement: Tasks, milestones, and deliverables were managed seamlessly through a well-coordinated master programme.
