When we set out on our journey we wanted to create a firm that was inclusive, had a sense of ownership by everybody and a wider social purpose.
2017

Archus is founded by six experienced healthcare infrastructure and strategic planning professionals with wide-ranging expertise. They take on personal, professional and financial risk to leave behind a large corporate culture, steered by a belief in doing business differently with a bigger emphasis on people.
They set out to create a business philosophy with people at its heart – from colleagues and their families to clients, associates and supply chain. To act responsibly, to build an inclusive culture and embed real ownership across the business.
March
First office opens near Bath. The whole business has just eight employees.
September
Birmingham office opens with three employees.
November
London office opens with one employee.
December
Internal governance systems are set up and accredited to ISO 9001 and 14001.
February
Our first birthday. The Employee Share Trust is established, a central piece of the Archus vision, transferring 10% of Archus’ shareholdings to our employee trust. We are now 18 employees.
March
Appointed to the NHS Shared Business Service framework, a significant recognition for a new company.
October
Leeds office opens to establish our northern presence, with two employees.
November
Investors in People accreditation achieved – with one of the highest staff survey ratings ever obtained by the IIP.
February
Our second birthday. We hold our first annual employee event at Clevedon Hall, North Somerset, with 30 employees.
April
Our first significant commission: to update all health technical guidance (Health Building Notes and Technical Memoranda) for NHSEI.
July
Corporate membership of Association for Project Management (APM) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
November
Finalists in the Investors in People Awards in the ‘Newcomer’ category.

We celebrate our third birthday at our annual team event. We now number 35 employees.
Keynote speaker Ben Clench gives his inspirational Follow the Patient talk to all staff. Ben now consults with Archus, providing “the patient’s voice”.
Better Business Cases TM – nine members of team officially accredited.

Covid-19 pandemic – we work around the clock to help deliver Nightingale surge hospital facilities in London, Cardiff, Manchester and Birmingham. With NHSE&I, we develop standard design guidance for ‘Covid-19 patients requiring intubation’ used in all facilities.

We’ve now worked for 200+ clients and delivered business cases worth a capital value of £1.8 billion
August
Second Technical Guidance win, building on first stage of commission.
Archus now advises across UK central policy, New for Old, Intelligent Hospital Design, Modern Methods of Construction, Patient Pathways, and assisting with the Construction Innovation Hub.

Financial Analysis and Planning service offering established.
December
Archus team hits 50 employees.

Head of Programme and Project Management appointed.

Celebrating our fourth birthday and looking ahead to the future, we launch an updated brand identity and new website.
Our purpose is to be the leading health infrastructure specialist; to deliver the best for our clients and grow responsibly, yet underpinned by the same Archus values we set out with.

Archus achieves its first award win. A proud recipient of the Regional Covid-19 Response Partnership Award at the 2021 HSJ Partnership Awards.
Recognition given to Archus and wider project partners for the delivery of the Dragon’s Heart Hospital/Ysbyty Calon y Ddraig in Cardiff. The 1,500 bed surge hospital was constructed in 2020 as part of the Welsh Covid response.

We were over the moon to all be together again in our 2021 Archus Day this month, the first face-to-face full team event in over 18 months. A chance to reflect on our achievements and plan for our future, with lots of fun along the way.
As you'll see, there were a fair few more of us this year!

We welcome our first ever Archus apprentice, supporting our Technical Advisory team in their work to produce NHS quality documentation.

We celebrate five years of business, partnerships and relationships with our people and our clients

Establish our new office in Dublin, Ireland, to support increasing demand from our health and social care clients in the region.

We are accredited as an Outstanding company to work for by Best Companies and highlighted in two of their national league tables including the UK's Consultancy sector Best Companies, and the UK's Best Mid-Sized Companies.

Shane Dineen is appointed Managing Director and Victoria Head as Director of Commercial and Performance, as part of a five-year strategy for growth. We confirm our plans for growth in international markets including Canada and Australia.

We celebrate six years of business and working together with our clients and partners to deliver successful health outcomes for our communities.

The world’s first healthcare specific Net Zero Carbon Building Standard is published by NHS England.
The ground-breaking document was developed under the leadership of the Archus Technical Advisory team and creates clarity on the scope, methodology and approach regarding net zero carbon for NHS construction projects.

As part of our ongoing growth, we open our first office in Wales.

Archus receives a £9 million investment from BGF, one of the largest and most experienced growth capital investors in the UK and Ireland.

We proudly become a Certified B Corporation®.

We are appointed lead supplier for a further four years; leading the delivery of next phase of the NHS Estates Technical Standards and Guidance Programme.

We open our new Toronto office and appoint Christine Chadwick as Managing Director for Archus Canada Ltd
